Plan a 50s Party That’ll Make ‘Em Flip
Hip or square, we all imagine the 50s in different ways. I Love Lucy springs to mind for some, while others go straight to Elvis when reflecting on America's Golden Age. Of course, nostalgia for the 50s is a lot easier if you were alive at the time. For the rest of us, the 50s are party planning gold. Cocktail parties, birthdays or dinners--no matter the event, the 50s lend themselves to every section of a party planning checklist.
Farewell, Bon Voyage, See You at Thanksgiving
Dear Penelope,
My sister’s going away to college at the end of August and I told my parents I’d plan her send-off party because they’re already freaking out enough about her being across the country from us. The only problem is that I don’t really know what to do for a send-off party, especially for a girl. Do you have any ideas?

Make Light of Party Planning
Howdy Penelope-
I’d like to organize a party for my wife’s 40th birthday, and I’d like it to be a simple as possible—no extravagant themes where even the chairs are a part of the “party message” or whatever you planners like to call it. It’ll be towards the end of August in the late evening. The main point is to make my wife feel special, but I think simple comes right after her on the priority list. Suggestions?
