Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: Planning a Fun 80s Party
Hey Penelope-
My friends and I are throwing an 80s party at the end of the month and want to make it as fun as possible. Do you have any tips to help make our party extra fun and memorable? Thanks!

Lauren (and friends)-
When I think back on the 80s, the thing that I remember most fondly (other than my permanent side ponytail) is the music. While some dislike 80s music, I think the thing to remember is that the performers in the 80s had fun making their music and that the fun was visible and infectious. Why else would there be three radio stations in the Boston area alone devoted to playing hits from the 80s in 2007?
For your party music checklist, the best way to make sure that your guests feel that you’ve like, totally covered all the bases is to include them in the music selection process. I’m sure you and your co-hosts have the staple artists covered—Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Cindy Lauper, Van Halen, The Police and the rest of the gang. But for the really fantastic One Hit Wonders of the 80s, I suggest organizing a simple Remember When contest among your guests to see who can come up with the best “Oh! I forgot about that song” submission. It’s an easy way to make sure that your party has the best possible 80s soundtrack, and that your guests can join in on the fun of reminiscing about the days of short shorts and shoulder pads.
Get out of my dreams, and into my car.
Enjoy Planning.
