Ocean Originals
Hello everyone!
Today we're going to discuss a summer classic: the beach/ocean party. I've been asked by a few people for ways to spruce up a beach or an ocean party and make it less typical, so here are a few simple tips to keep your next aquatic event fresh and fun.
Theme: Don't feel limited to simply "beach" or "ocean" as your party theme. You'll find that planning for a party with a more specific theme will end up making your party planning significantly easier. For example, a Pirate's Treasure theme lets you rule out having to find, buy and transport sand. You won't need seashells either. Instead, focus on decorating your party space with Jolly Rogers flags and "booty" of various assortments. Candy works nicely as booty for kids' parties and lets you set up a fun activity for the guests: treasure hunt!
Name: I love to be as creative as possible with names. It's a simple touch that lets your guests know that you're putting a lot of work into making your party enjoyable for them. Just include your creative title right on your e invitations. For ocean and beach parties, fun names can range anywhere from Shipwrecked Shindig, Unquestionably Underwater and Shore Thing to more involved names like Flock of Seagulls for an 80s beach party, Two Buoys for a commitment ceremony reception and Naughtycal Nights for a bachelor/bachelorette party.
Games: For kids' parties, games are a lot easier to come by: hide some candy for them to find or paint their faces, and you're all set. But games are a great way to get adult guests involved, too. For a Port and Starboard party, assign half of your guests to Port and half to Starboard and ask them to come dressed accordingly. Prizes can be given to the best representative from each team, and guests will have fun getting into the spirit.
The most important thing to remember is that creative party ideas make for memorable parties. I'm most excited to attend parties with a quirky name or a creative premise because the host seems to have already gotten into the party spirit.
Enjoy Planning.
