Environmentally Friendly Graduation Party Planning

So you want to be environmentally responsible in your graduation party planning, but you're not sure where to start?

Not to worry! I've compiled a list of sustainable party planning tips that should help you achieve your green goal in no time.

My first tip is to ditch the paper invitations and head over to MyPunchbowl to check out our free online invitations for your graduation party. No trees have been harmed in the production of our invitations, and no fuel will be used in delivering them. Score!

Here's a perfect example:

Now for the day of your party itself.

  • Plan to hold your party outside. This may seem like a no-brainer with the nice weather in May and June, but you'll cut energy costs and conserve electricity by relying on sunlight for your party instead of lights inside your home.
  • When choosing food options for your graduation party, stick to foods and drinks that are made from organic ingredients and sold in recyclable containers. Your food will taste better, and it'll certainly be better for you, too!
  • A big source of waste at graduation parties is plastic dining ware. Instead of buying plastic cups, plates and utensils for your graduation party, look into compostable alternatives made from corn (and available for purchase online).
  • As for napkins, break out some cloth! If you don't want to use nice napkins from your own supply, buy and cut up simple fabric from a nearby fabric store and use that. Wash your new napkins when the party's over and presto! More napkins to add to your linen closet.
  • Encourage your guests to carpool to your party space, wherever that may be. Have a small gift or drink coupon waiting for groups of guests who arrive together.

If you stick to these guidelines for a green graduation party, you're guaranteed success on the big day. Not only will you be celebrating the new grad, you'll be setting a neighborhood precedent.

Soon, your friends and family will be clamoring to follow your environmentally responsible lead.

Give yourself a pat on the back, green party planners, and have fun!

Enjoy Planning.
