What's for Dinner: Raclette
I recently went to dinner at a friend's house and they informed us that we'd be having Raclette. I had no idea what they were talking about. Here's what I learned...
Popular in Europe, Raclette isn't very well known in the U.S. It's a type of cheese produced in Switzerland and France that is heated, either in front of a fire or by a special machine, then scraped onto diners' plates over a variety of foods such as little potatoes, broccoli, pickles, and avocado.
I know it sounds a little strange, but the idea is similar to fondu except that instead of dipping foods into the cheese, the melted cheese is poured over the food. It's delicious! And not only is it delicious, but it's an activity in itself. When I went to a raclette party, the few guests helped our host prepare the meal (with a glass of wine in hand, of course). Now I want to get one of the special machines so I can host my own raclette parties.
Interested in hosting your own raclette party, send free invitations to your guests with a heads up about what's on the menu. Invite them to bring a bottle of white wine or side item that would work well with the cheese.
Enjoy Planning.
