Delicious Alternatives to Traditional Party Drinks

Dear Penelope,
My husband and I would like to throw a party at our home to celebrate our son’s recent engagement. We don’t drink and we prefer not to serve alcohol in our house, but we want the party to be fun anyway and are feeling stressed. What would you suggest we do?

Dear Angela,
Planning a party for such a wonderful occasion should not be stressful! Of course you shouldn’t have to serve alcohol if you and your husband aren’t comfortable with it. With blended juices and smoothies becoming increasingly popular, I would suggest having a juice and smoothie bar at your son’s engagement party. Grocery stores that sell organic products tend to carry delicious juice blends that one might not find elsewhere; check out a few that interest you and have them on hand to mix with other ingredients for delicious beverages that you (and your guests) can feel good drinking.

To include your guests in the party planning, attach a note to your invitations asking that guests bring a creative juice or smoothie recipe as their ticket in to the engagement celebration. If you're still feeling stressed, here’s a party planning tip to help take your mind off the lack of alcohol on your party planning checklist: picture the party that you and your husband are throwing for your son as the healthy precursor to his bachelor party.

At least we know he’ll wake up feeling healthy after your party!

Enjoy Planning.
