Summery Party Food for Your Labor Day Weekend Party

I’m looking for a way to really play up “summer” for my Labor Day party theme. I think I’ve got the decorations covered, I’m going with bright pinks and yellows, but I’m kind of stuck on how to carry the “summer” theme through with the party food. I’m serving the summer basics: surf n turf (lobster and steak) and corn, but I was thinking I could serve some other dishes that really emphasize the summer theme. Any ideas?

Earlier this summer, I wrote to a woman who was looking for Summer Sun recipes, and suggest a citrus salad recipe for her use. This salad would be perfect for your summery Labor Day party as well, and would pick up nicely on the pinks and yellows you’re using for Labor Day decorations.
My other suggestion for a "summer" Labor Day party theme is to serve something with lots of blueberries as a way to mimic the blue of the ocean, which is the other thing that springs to mind when I think of summer. A blueberry cobbler or some blueberry pie might be delicious, but my favorite blueberry dish is made by simply filling a shallow pastry crust with lemon custard and covering the whole thing with fresh blueberries. I glaze the blueberries with a lemon juice and Confectioner’s Sugar combination that complements their tart taste and makes for a perfect summery dessert. For beverages, you can’t go wrong with Mojitos to mimic the beautiful greens we see all around us during the summer.
