Labor Day is Coming Up! What Are Your Plans?
Labor Day Weekend is coming up, dear readers, and there’s no excuse not to host at least a small get together to celebrate the summer we’ve nearly finished and the fall that’s right around the bend. Throw one last big cookout or barbecue, or invite some friends over for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. For the Walker family, Labor Day is about that one last break before school starts. We celebrate the freedom and empty schedule of the best summer days, and prepare for the early mornings and brown bag lunches of fall and back to school season.
Planning a Leafy Labor Day Party
Dear Penelope,
Since Labor Day signifies the end of summer and the beginning of fall, I can never decide what kind of decorations, theme or party food to go with. This Labor Day, I’m thinking of focusing more on the fall side of Labor Day, kind of a leaf theme. I know I’ll decorate with the typical fall colors of orange, red, and yellow, but was hoping you could steer me in the right direction for what to serve my guests. Anything come to mind?

Keep Kids and Adults Entertained This Labor Day
Dear Penelope,
Every year, our family has a big get-together for Labor Day at a different family member’s house. This year the Labor Day party will be at my house, and I’m worried about being able to keep kids and adults entertained (mostly the kids). Any suggestions for some kind of activity to keep everyone happy? The party will be outdoors (weather permitting) on a fairly good-sized chunk of lawn.
