An Intimate New Year's Eve Party
What to do on New Year's Eve is always such a debate. Go out? Stay in? Stop wasting time and start planning a New Year's Eve party that will make you glad you stayed home.
An intimate dinner party (6-10 people) works really well for a night like New Year's Eve for several reasons:
1) It's not too much prep work to plan a dinner party for a small group (versus a big party of 25+ people).
2) You can probably fit everyone around your nicely decorated table, in your living room, or wherever you decide to enjoy the night's festivities.

3) Most games will accommodate small groups, if not on your own than split into teams.
4) If people are drinking, coming from long distances, or are just too tired to drive, you can probably find room for them to crash at your place (they can even bring air mattresses and sleeping bags just in case).
5) When it's all said and done you'll probably still spend less on the party than on going out!
