Classic and Elegant Holiday Decorations
Hosts often write to me and ask how they can create a sophisticated atmosphere for their party. I usually write back and tell them, when in doubt keep it simple. This philosophy applies to everything from decorations to the party menu to the holiday party invitations.
The easiest way to keep it simple is to start with a color palette. For Thanksgiving, deep purples and oranges work great! Combine solids with subtle patterns for that elegant effect. If you decide to use a colorful pattern for a tablecloth or napkins, tone down the other components of your decorations or table setting.
Another trick for an elegant holiday party table is to not even use a tablecloth. If you have a nice wood table, use placemats. You are guaranteed to use them again. I really like the table setting above because it combines a subtle pattern on the placemats with bold orange napkins on the white plates. Add to the place settings the natural centerpieces and white candles and the effect is a stunning and elegant holiday table.
Enjoy Planning.
