Colorful Party Planning for an Original Halloween

I've heard from several readers who are still searching for Halloween party themes and are sick of witches and goblins (how? I don't know). For them, and for the others of you out there who have had your fill of Frankenstein, are vexed by vampires or are just plain bored with bats, I suggest a Roy G. Biv themed party.

For those of you who fell asleep during kindergarten art class or who have forgotten about all of that art stuff, Roy G. Biv is an mnemonic device used to help remember the basic visual spectrum of colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Whereas Americans have Mr. Biv to remind us of the seven-color spectrum, the British use Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain to help them remember their colours.

So how does this apply to your Halloween party planning efforts? In nearly every way possible. Serve foods that represent the seven-color spectrum, decorate according to Roy G. Biv and assign each of your party guests a particular color to represent in their costume. Give prizes to the best party guest in each color category (for those Halloween guests who really go all out in head-to-toe violet or orange, for example), and even organize your music according to the color of your CD album covers. You'll get quite a good mix of music that way!

So if you're bored with the traditional Halloween party fare--taste the rainbow this Halloween with a Roy G. Biv party! Your guests will love the freedom of getting to wear anything that falls under the umbrella of "green" or "yellow," and you'll see some wild costumes as a result.

Enjoy Planning.
