Halloween Costumes: What to Wear When Hunting Vampires

Dear Penelope,
Help! I’ve put off planning my Halloween costume and the party I’ve been invited to and it’s only a few days away. The thing is, the party is a “Vampire Hunt” party and the host has asked us to come dressed accordingly, but I don’t know what that means. Am I supposed to be a vampire? A hunter? Any ideas?

Dear Kimberly,
Since I’ve envisioned a perfect costume for you, I’m going to suggest that your host meant for the Halloween party guests to arrive as hunters rather than vampires. My idea for your Vampire Hunt Halloween costume: go as an angry villager from those old Count Dracula stories!

I’d start with some old work jeans and a big, beat up sweater or shirt (we’re going for an ‘I’ve been out toiling all day’ look), preferably in a dark color. Smudge a little bronzer or brown face paint on your face to play up the fact that you’ve been hunting for vampires in caves and the like. For the finishing touch, string together a necklace of garlic cloves with some twine as a way to ward off the predator.

If you have some wooden stakes lying around (and who doesn’t?), bring one of those for protection. Can’t find a stake? Unless you have some old torches lighting your hallways, use your artistic Halloween license and grab a tiki torch to light the way while you and the other partygoers are out hunting. You'll be the best angry villager of them all. Happy hunting!

Enjoy Planning.
