Cinco de Mayo Party Drinks – the Margarita
Margaritas are practically the national drink of Mexico. Some say the drink was created in a Mexican bar for a showgirl who was allergic to all kinds of alcohol except tequila. Others attribute its start to a Dallas socialite named Marjorie Sames at a Christmas party in her Acapulco home in the 1940’s.
However it originated, this delicious lime-flavored drink is a party-planning staple for any Cinco de Mayo party worth its salt.

If your guests don't drink alcohol, I've got a Margarita version minus the tequila that they can hold during the Limbo contest. For the regular version - just add tequila!
- 1 tsp. coarse salt
- 3 oz. sweet and sour mix
- Lime wedge
- Ice
- 2 oz. lemon-lime soda
-Pour the coarse salt onto a plate or saucer.
-Moisten the rim of a margarita glass with the lime wedge. Dip the glass into the salt until it coats the rim.
-Fill the glass with ice and pour in the lemon-lime soda, sweet and sour mix and lime juice.
-Garnish with the lime.
Oh and don't forget to create a Latin playlist on your iPod for the Limbo Contest, Charlie and I recommend the movie soundtrack to The Buena Vista Social Club, and anything by the Gypsy Kings.
¡Buen apetito!
Enjoy Planning.
