Holiday Film Festival Party

One of my favorite aspects of the holiday season is the endless repeat of “A Christmas Story” on cable. I also get all warm and fuzzy when commercials for classics like “Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer” start cropping up. I can't think of a better way to get nostalgic and celebrate the season than hosting a holiday film festival.

Grab a seat and make some popcorn for a cozy and intimate holiday party. This is a great treat for kids and can be easily customized for a children’s sleepover.

Send invitations for your holiday film festival so you'll know how many extra seats you'll need (extra pillows and blankets are a must!). Let guests know what to expect and that they can dress comfortably. Then rent DVDs of holiday classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life” or “A Christmas Carol” and combine with a modern classic like “Elf” or childhood favorites like “Frosty the Snowman.” A double feature is usually the perfect length for a party.

We suggest making this delicious twist on a movie favorite. Caramel popcorn instantly gives a holiday feel to an everyday snack.

Caramel Popcorn - Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 quarts popped popcorn

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (95 degrees C). Place popcorn in a very large bowl.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in soda and vanilla. Pour in a thin stream over popcorn, stirring to coat.
  3. Place in two large shallow baking dishes and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes.

In addition to the popcorn, purchase larger boxes of candy like you get at the movie theater and create an assortment for guests to choose from.

Dim the lights and enjoy!

Enjoy Planning.
