Kid Friendly Christmas Decorations
Looking for something easy and fun to do with your kids to get the house ready and decorated this Christmas? If you have magic markers, some paper plates, glue, glitter and a pair of scissors, you're all set to get Christmas decorating!
I wrote earlier about decorating real Christmas wreaths and fun ways to personalize your own family's wreath, but these paper plate Christmas wreaths are a whole lot easier to make and won't get all of that extra nature all over your house! To make a paper plate Christmas wreath, simply trace the outline of your wreath design along the ridged edges of a paper plate, then cut away the center to create a paper wreath!
After cutting away the excess paper, you and the kids can set about coloring, gluing and glittering each wreath to your liking. I like to trace a thin column shape in the center of my paper plate that I leave intact while I'm cutting away the rest of the center, and then turn it into a candle with some warm yellow shading and a little black wick. Maggie always colors some red berries onto her paper plate wreath, and draws a few blue leaves amidst the green to make her wreath stand out.
In addition to using these wreaths as decoration around the house, I like to use them as frames for the centerpieces at the kids table during Christmas dinner. It allows Maggie and William to show off their designs to their cousins, and makes them feel special throughout the holiday dinner. These specific decorations are a great way to make your kids feel like they played an active role in spreading Christmas cheer this year, and will serve as an excellent keepsake as your kids grow older.
Have fun!
Enjoy Planning.
