Simple Birthday Gift Advice
In light of the fact that yesterday was my birthday (Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me), I thought I would write today about the tricky party tradition of birthday gifts. The most important thing to remember when shopping for or making a birthday present is the personality of the person who'll be receiving the gift. I've gotten some great gifts in my life, but I've also gotten some pretty horrible ones, and the best way to make sure your gift is always remembered as a great idea or gesture is to make sure it's in keeping with the birthday person's tastes or interests.
Have a Rockin’ Moroccan Birthday Party
Dear Penelope,
I am turning 24 next month, and I would like to have a party for about 40 people with a theme. Can you suggest something fun and creative that isn't necessarily centered on drinking? Either a costume scheme, a food scheme, or a decorating scheme, or something which incorporates all of the above? I'm tired of "luaus" and "fiestas"!!

Indy! Indy! Adventurous Birthday Party Themes
Dear Penelope,
I'm holding a dual 50th birthday party for a couple. The theme is Indiana Jones and will be held at their home in a casual atmosphere. Could you make suggestions on how to carry out this theme idea? Thanks!

Make Light of Party Planning
Howdy Penelope-
I’d like to organize a party for my wife’s 40th birthday, and I’d like it to be a simple as possible—no extravagant themes where even the chairs are a part of the “party message” or whatever you planners like to call it. It’ll be towards the end of August in the late evening. The main point is to make my wife feel special, but I think simple comes right after her on the priority list. Suggestions?

Beat the Same Old Birthday Blues
Penelope-
I'm throwing a party for my daughter Ella's 5th birthday at the end of August, and I'm trying to think of an original theme. I know it's her birthday, but I hate Princess Parties. Can you think of anything less stereotypical for a 5 year-old (and her mother)? Thanks!
