40 and Fabulous Birthday Party Ideas
I have a few friends who are nearing the big 4-0! Mind you, they don't look at day over, oh let's say, 32. Seriously, you would have no idea that they're approaching the dreaded forty. They're active, outgoing, and have never felt better. So what kind of party do you throw for someone who's 40 and fabulous?
Well, if you can't throw a star-studded bash like those thrown for Jennifer Anniston and J.Lo's 40th birthdays, here are some ideas to get you going:
- Go out. Find an amazing venue - whether it's a trendy restaurant or hotel - check out a few in person before you commit. At this stage in your life, you deserve a great night out.
- Assemble the guest list. If you're throwing the party for someone else, make sure to get a list of everyone you think the guest of honor would want at the party. If it's a surprise party, this will be a bit more challenging.
- Create a signature drink. Work with the bartender or catering manager to offer a signature drink in the guest of honor's name. If they have a drink of choice, like a cosmo or raspberry martini, you can have fun coming up with a name for the drink as well.
- Dress up. Turning 40 is a big deal. It's a major milestone birthday - a special occasion. As such set a dress code for the party such as "cocktail attire."
- Shake your booty. If there's going to be dancing at this soiree, give the dj a playlist with the guest of honor's favorite songs from over the years.
- Take pictures. Scan your guest list to see who will be reliable as party photographer. Post pics in the After Party section for everyone to see.
