Where, Oh Where to Throw a 3rd Birthday Party
Hi Penelope,
My son will be 3 this December, and we’ll be having a Thomas the Tank Engine theme. I’m looking for a great place to have a party for him and I want it to be cool & fun for kids of all ages. We live in Revere, Mass (so not too far from you) and have considered the Children’s Museum, bowling or ceramic crafts places. Any ideas? I would totally appreciate your help.

What a great birthday you’ve got coming up! I loved when my kids hit three—it’s a kind of departure from really little to just a regular old kid. And while this is definitely a big birthday, I wouldn’t rush into something as involved as bowling or ceramic crafts. In the years to come, those places will definitely have their moment in the sun, but it’s nice to keep a 3rd birthday party simple with all of the running around you’re already doing with children that age. I’m tired just thinking about it!
If memory serves, though, you can rent out birthday party rooms at the Children’s Museum and host your Thomas the Tank Engine theme party there. That’s a great place for a kids’ birthday party because there’s so much to see and explore for children of all ages, and their staff is well-trained to work with children.
The other 3rd birthday party suggestion I had for you was to check out some indoor playland-type places, looking specifically for rides and games geared towards younger kids. Often, a steam engine ride is offered and can be tons of fun for someone who’s turning 3. Plus, what could be better for a Thomas the Tank Engine themed party than a group train ride? Have fun with this and remember not just to make the day fun for your son and his friends, but for yourself as well!
