Halloween Costume Ideas for the Whole Family

My wife and I are bringing our two kids to a family costume party this Halloween, and we’re stumped for an original costume idea. I’d rather die than dress like a 50s family, and my wife doesn’t like my idea to have us be a loose adaptation of the Brady Bunch. Any ideas that will keep everyone happy? Thanks.

Family costume ideas are never easy, and I don’t blame you or your wife for running into trouble this Halloween. My idea for you folks has been done before, but it’s a good one and will give everyone a chance to escape everyday costumes and behavior. Go as the Addams Family! Da-na-na-na thump-thump, da-na-na-na thump-thump!
It’ll be fun: you can go as Gomez, your wife can be Morticia and your two kids can be Pugsley and Wednesday. If you don’t happen to have a boy and a girl, you can certainly apply your Halloween party artistic license and adapt the kids’ costumes accordingly. Of course, some of the other characters from the Addams Family are cult favorites, and one of you may prefer to go as Cousin Itt or Uncle Fester.
But let’s assume that you’ll go as the nuclear Addams Family. For Gomez, I suggest a three piece suit, some heavily applied hair gel and red rose between the teeth. For Morticia, the tightest, sexiest dress you can find with super straight hair and lots of black eyeliner. Don’t forget her signature knitting needles either! As for the kids, the costumes are a little bit less specific. Braided pigtails are an obvious choice for Wednesday, and I’d suggest some dark clothing and some pale makeup to make the kids fit in with the parents.
The important thing is to have fun with a costume idea like this. If you and your family sit down to watch a few old Addams Family episodes or one of the more recent Addams Family Values films, you’ll get the perfect idea that’ll be fun for the whole family. With a fun throwback idea like the Addams Family, you’ll be sure to win any Halloween costume contest your hosts can throw at you next week.
