It's officially October, my friends, and do you know what that means? It means that the time to plan your Halloween party is now. This month is deceptively short, and between yardwork and schoolwork and party planning, time gets eaten up faster than candy during trick-or-treat. I've put together a brief Halloween party planning checklist that covers Halloween party basics and will help you get started.

1. Date: when will you throw your Halloween party? You'll want to be sure to check with other friends and family before settling on a date to make sure that you don't get stuck in the uncomfortable 'two parties on one night' situation.

2. Guests and Atmosphere: Who will you invite? Will yours be a sophisticated adult Halloween party? Or a family fun night with Halloween costume contests and lots of candy? A little of both?
