Today's Reason to Celebrate

November 7, 2009 was

Sadie Hawkins Day

Did you know that Sadie Hawkins Day originated from the classic hillbilly comic strip Li'l Abner in 1937? In the original story, Sadie's father was worried that she would never be married so he created a footrace for Sadie to venture out to meet the town's eligible bachelors.

Today, Sadie Hawkins Day is recognized as an American folk event in which girls take the initiative to ask a boy out for a date. Participate in this unique tradition today by attending a Sadie Hawkins dance or talk to that crush you've been eying.
