Today's Reason to Celebrate

October 31, 2009 was

Halloween

Ghosts and goblins, costumes, candy, and jack-o-lanterns... it must be All Hallows Eve!

Halloween originated more than 2,000 years ago in Northern Europe under Pagan traditions. The ancient Celtic Pagans believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the living the the dead dissolved. On this night, the spirits of the deceased could cause problems for the living such as provoking sickness or damaging their crops. As an attempt to throw off these spirits, the Pagan Celtics would wear costumes and masks at their festivals and have bonfires.

Today, Halloween is a celebrated holiday around the world. Many of the traditions of the Pagans are followed and people often dress up in costumes and masks to celebrate. It is a night of tricks and treats, ghost stories, and fright. Try not to get too scared if you decide to venture out tonight! Happy Halloween!
