Default Engagement party: gift or no gift?

Do I bring a gift to an engagement party? Keep in mind I'll get the couple a gift for their shower and for the wedding? I'll also likely attend the bachelorette party.

If the answer is yes, bring a gift, what types of gifts are appropriate for engagement parties?

Well, the last engagement party I went to was my friend Sean's engagement party (yep, that Sean). We did not bring a gift. Our present was our presence!

I think it depends on where you live... it seems different parts have different etiquette rules.

Living in the north east.... here in NY people usually give money to the couple to use towards their wedding. However, I have friends who live in other parts of the country that no one ever gives a gift, or the couple registers... and people buy from the registry (which seems a little silly to me, because you do the same thing for the shower)

I would ask around to your friends locally.

I live in the Midwest-Minneapolis exactly, and I haven't ever brought a gift for an engagement party.

No gift does not matter in the engagement party, your presence is the present for them .I have attended many engagement parties without gifts.

Hello To All
I have some suggestion for Engagement party gifts. These are simple and cheapest gifts.
1. For an engagement party, nothing can be better than a flower bouquet, comprising of the favorite flowers of the couple.
2.You can also make use of gift items like ring holder and photo frame - with a picture of the couple.
3. Get the photo of the would-be bride and groom printed on apparels, like t-shirts, hats, and aprons, and gift it to them.
4.Nothing can be better as an engagement gift than a box of liqueur chocolates, which the couple can enjoy together, after the party is over.
5. It would be a nice idea to purchase a scrapbook for the couple and encourage all the guests to write a few words about them, in it. This can be a lovely way of giving them memories related to the engagement.
6.You can also opt for exquisite jewelry items. It can be anything from a neckpiece or earrings for the would-be bride and a ring or bracelet for the would-be groom. You can opt for gold, diamond or platinum jewelry, depending on your budget.
7.Gifting the couple with a candle stand, along with aromatic candles, can be a very good gift option.
8. You can go for an engagement basket, which includes items like a watch set, perfume set, double-bed blanket and bed sheet set.
Thanks

Definitely no gift! Give gifts when it's the shower and the wedding day!
